What do I feed my puppy?

I got a puppy - what food should I feed him/her?

We see this question a lot on the boards. And this is a topic that is discussed by your breeder prior to getting the puppy.

If your breeder has not provided guidance on what puppy food your puppy should have - then keep reading!

Never give your puppy cow’s milk! This causes diarrhea and stomach upset.

Also, Pomskies do better with grain-inclusive foods.

Most Pomsky breeders provide a sample bag of the dog food that the puppy has been on and done well eating. Our recommendation would be to continue feeding that for at least a couple of months while the puppy transitions to their new home. 💩 Stress poo is real! Stress plus the addition of a new food will cause there to be even more Poo-Meggedon events.

If you decide to give your puppy a different food than what your breeder has raised them on, transition them slowly onto the new food over the course of 2 weeks.

We recently polled the top Pomsky breeders and this was the breakdown of the foods that they currently feed their dogs and recommend:

Purina Pro Plan 31%

Nutri-Source 19%

Diamond Naturals 11%

Kirkland (Costco) 7%

Life Abundance 5%

4-Health (Tractor Supply) 5%

Purina One 5%

Fromm Puppy Gold 5%

Taste of the Wild 2%

Primal 2%

Whole Raw Prey Model 2%

Dehydrated Raw 2%

Merrick Raw Coated 2%
