Our Mission
The American Pomsky Kennel Club APKC® is the unification of like-minded breeders with the goal of furthering the Pomsky breed, and ultimately achieving AKC recognition. We are a 501(c)4 nonprofit organization (NPO), and as such our board, directors, and staff are all unpaid volunteers. 100% of the proceeds derived from membership dues, club donations, and merchandise sales goes directly back into the organization.
As we move forward, it is important to know the requirements in order to qualify as an AKC recognized breed. Among these requirements are a minimum of 40 years of a registry, a written breed standard, active participation of 100+ breeder members, as well as a minimum of three foundation breeds in the makeup of the Pomsky.
Previously, the makeup of the Pomsky has included only the Pomeranian and the Siberian Husky.
A lot of thought and research has gone into what additional breed(s) should be added to the two foundation breeds. When considering this, the goal was to ensure that the additional breed(s) would complement the look and temperament of the Pomsky that we have come to know and love.
With this in mind, it has been decided that the addition of the American Eskimo breed will enhance the overall look and temperament of the Pomsky while allowing us to move toward AKC recognition. The American Eskimo, a companion dog, is a beautiful dog that is strong and agile and very loving. Always white or cream, the Eskimo is a medium sized dog with triangular ears and black points.
Breeders who have already added one of these dogs into their existing Pomsky lines have had amazing results that have been overwhelmingly positive.
Our breeders will always be required to disclose the genetic makeup of their dogs by providing DNA testing on all breeding dogs. This will ensure a puppy purchased from an APKC breeder will not only be healthy, it will truly be a Pomsky.
We are excited for the future of the Pomsky breed and look forward to our ultimate goal of AKC recognition being realized. While this endeavor will take a large amount of perseverance, teamwork, and time; we believe it to be worthwhile. We will focus on transparency, honesty, open communication, and professionalism as we rapidly progress to making this breed internationally recognizable.
